Attractions in Clayton

Clayton is a wonderful secret, hidden in North Eastern New Mexico, in Union County. Clayton Lake is New Mexico's most prized State Park. With recent rains, Clayton Lake is now greener and deeper than it has been in years. Fishing is more popular than ever, and the Trout Derby which is usually held in the beginning of May, is also growing in popularity throughout the years. There are countless prizes, Golf Cart and a Boat to name a few, and there are many children's and adult activities during the Derby too.

The Clayton Arts Festival is another fine example of what a small town can do. This is usually held in October, and sells thousands of dollars of Art each year, and is set to continue to rise in popularity. Many people come from all over America for this fine expedition.

This great town of ours has many other things for tourists to do, we have a very fine and professional Museum, a radio control club (CAMAC), many ladies clubs and society's too. Dinosaur Days is hugely popular amongst the locals and tourists alike, with many exciting rides or other fairground activities to amuse everybody. The 4th of July Dance is one of Clayton's most family orientated events. Generations of family's come home here just for the Street Dance, or to have family reunions with loved ones still here. A local band is usually on stage opposite the Eklund, we have many vendors doing a big variety of things for everybody. Also for the 4th of July we have a parade and a BBQ.

Other sites and attractions we have in and around Union County include; Capulin Volcano, Dorsey Mansion, Dry Cimmaron, Folsom, a number of museums, Rabbit Ear Mountain and the Santa Fe Trail.

Clayton is no longer a drive-by-town, but a real tourist destination with attractions, shops, restaurants and much more to keep everybody entertained. If you choose to stay at the Clayton Motel we will help you feel at home in our beautiful community.
